These notebooks are very nice and pretty straight forward to work on. Keep in mind when replacing a system board in most HP notebooks, you’re required to “brand” the bios with system ID’s (Serial Numbers, SKU’s, etc). This procedure requires the HP branding tool which you can download here, complete with instructions.
This particular notebook was experiencing random freezing and power on issues. Of course when I arrived it booted right up no problem. The notebook’s OS (Windows 7) was already diagnosed with no issues by the users employer. I was merely there for the leg work. This is the basic run down of a system board and bios brand of the HP Elite Book 8460p.
The following photos are of an Ontario Government Data Center. This particular center has three large rooms completely filled with an assortment of servers and storage appliances. This data center is dominated by your standard computer giants: IBM, HP, Windows. Provincial services such as Health, Justice and Transportation utilize this center for various needs, such as: SQL, Active Directory, Apache/ISS, and Data Storage. I’m sad to say most of the operating systems in this data center are Windows based. They do have some Unix variants but not enough! They make up for the Windows shit with some kick-ass Sun appliances, I’ll take what I can get.
I was here to upgrade an IBM X3850M2 (More RAM) The upgrade failed (Ruined my whole day) and we had to roll back to the original configuration. Actually I drove all the way home (1 Hr) only to find I had to drive right back to roll the server back. Enjoy the photos, bad quality and all.

This is the abomination I started with..
Now that you have a fresh Arch installation (Click here for the Easy Arch Linux Install Guide), you may want to add a GUI. My preference is GNOME. A Lot of people disagree with this choice but I’ve come to love this environment. GNOME 3 in it’s default form is shit in my opinion. Yes, It may do well on tablets and possibly even phones but I prefer the fallback mode which basically looks like GNOME 2. My two young kids also are accustomed to GNOME so I’m pretty much a supporter until fallback mode is discontinued.

What can I say, I love Arch Linux! tuxserv.com is totally biased when it comes to our darling Arch. If you’re just beginning to learn the sadistic world of Linux you should hold off on Arch until you’re more comfortable with command line stuff. Play around with Linux Mint or Ubuntu for a few weeks, Once you’re ready, Arch will be much more rewarding.
For those of you bastards that are looking to take Linux by the balls, Arch is for you. You do have to keep in mind that Arch is not a shinny product geared towards mainstream, it’s a base system you build on. The thing I love about Arch is the fact it forces you to learn shit. You’ll gain lots of knowledge by researching and solving issues which is why Arch is a fantastic learning tool.

If you neglect to install these apps, May God have mercy on your soul!
The device i’m using as of February 2013 is: Lenovo IdeaPad K1 – Android 4.0.3 / CyanogenMod 9
Yes, this tablet is ancient and slow compared to the shiny new generations but It’s rock solid, does everything I could possibly want and I picked it up cheap off kijiji!
Android App #1
Kingsoft Office (Free Version)
Kingsoft Office is the only mobile Office with full-features FREE! I’ve tried a few office suites and found Kingston Office the best. This app has daily usage from me. I use it mostly for spread sheets as it has support for drop-downs, multiple sheets, formulas, etc. If full featured document editing is what you need then you have no choice in the matter. Install the app.
